The Short Version
MyCareerAlly helps you manage your job search. To do that well, we need to understand your career — your experience, your achievements, the jobs you're considering. That's sensitive information, and we take it seriously.
- Your data is yours. You own everything in your Career Highlights and every document we generate for you.
- We don't train AI models on your data. Your career information is never used to train or improve language models. Period.
- We don't sell your data. We never have. We never will.
- You can export or delete everything. At any time, for any reason.
- Your data is isolated. Nothing you share with MyCareerAlly is visible to other users — ever.

1. What We Collect and Why
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address (for authentication and transactional messages), name (for personalization), and authentication credentials (managed through Firebase Authentication; we never store passwords in plaintext).
1.2 Career Information (Your Career Highlights)
During onboarding and ongoing use, you share employment history, achievement narratives with metrics, skills inventory, and education history. This is the foundation of everything MyCareerAlly does — without it, the product doesn't work.
1.3 Job Search Activity
As you use MyCareerAlly, we process job descriptions you evaluate, fit assessments, generated application materials, application tracking data, interview details and debriefs, offer details, and conversation history.
1.4 Voice Data
If you choose voice onboarding, audio recordings are captured temporarily for speech-to-text transcription. Recordings are discarded immediately after transcription. Only the text transcript is retained. You will be asked for explicit consent before any audio recording begins.
1.5 Usage Analytics
We collect anonymized usage data through Mixpanel: events (which features you use), session data (duration, device type), and performance metrics. We do not track specific content you enter in analytics.
1.6 Payment Information
Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see, store, or have access to your full credit card number. We retain subscription status, plan type, billing dates, and the last four digits of your payment method.
2. How Your Data Is Used
We use your data to deliver the core product, personalize your experience, process payments, send transactional communications, improve the product (aggregate, anonymized), and ensure security.
What we never do: sell it, use it to train AI models, share it with advertisers, display it to other users, or use it beyond the listed purposes.
3. AI and Your Data
MyCareerAlly uses Anthropic's Claude API to power its features. When you use these features, your relevant data is sent to Anthropic's API for processing.
Anthropic's API does not use customer inputs or outputs to train models. This is Anthropic's default policy for all commercial API usage. None of your data, in any form, is used to train any AI model.
Under Anthropic's current API terms, inputs and outputs are retained for up to 7 days for abuse monitoring, then automatically deleted.
All AI-generated materials should be reviewed by you before use. MyCareerAlly does not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated content.
4. Third-Party Services
Your data is shared with third-party services only as necessary: Anthropic (AI features), Firebase/Google Cloud (infrastructure), Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), Mixpanel (anonymized analytics), and our speech-to-text provider (voice transcription). We do not share your data with any service not listed here.
5. Data Storage and Security
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256). Database access is restricted through security rules enforcing per-user data isolation. Your data is completely isolated from other users.
6. Data Retention
Active account data is retained for the life of the account. Paused accounts are retained for 12 months. Deleted accounts are purged within 30 days. Voice recordings are discarded immediately after transcription. When you delete your account, your data is removed from all systems within 30 days.
7. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you can: access and export your data at any time, correct inaccurate data, delete individual items or your entire account, port your data in standard formats, and opt out of analytics tracking.
8. Jurisdiction-Specific Rights
GDPR (EEA/UK/Switzerland): We process data based on contractual necessity and legitimate interest. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for data transfers. You have the right to restrict processing, object to processing, and lodge complaints with your local data protection authority.
CCPA (California): You have the right to know what we collect, request deletion, and opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information). We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
10. Employer-Sponsored Access
If your access is provided through an employer or other organization: you own your data, the sponsor sees only aggregate usage data, if sponsorship ends you retain access to your data, and your data isolation is identical to individual users.
11. Children's Privacy
MyCareerAlly is designed for professional job seekers. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 16.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy here, notify active users by email at least 14 days before changes take effect, and clearly describe what changed.
